I want to learn pottery.? I want to learn how to make pottery using clay. Can I teach myself? Where do I start? I'm not interested in the Plaster of Paris chalky stuff. I mean the pots, etc. We have an art studio here that offers classes sometimes, but not right now. I need any and all information pertaining to this and I just can't find anything online. Thanks in advance.
I would like to know where to get plans on how to build a Potters Wheel.? I am looking for someone who has plans on how to build a electric Potters Wheel for making clay pottery.Or someone who has one they would like to sale or trade for something. It does not have to be a factory built one.I have been trying to find plans on how to build one and all I can seem to find is the old fashion ones that you spin with your foot. But I would take any kind of plans or somewhere that I could get plans at as of now.It would be for my daughter and even if it was one you spin with your foot would be fine.I could make it electric easily.Thank you in advance to anyone who can help. Or where I could buy one for a lot less than what they want people to pay for them at retail prices.I would gladly take one that was used or needed some work.I can fix anything with in reason. I really need one bad for my daughter. Her teacher said she was the best she has seen anyone at her age do so well with making pottery on a potters wheel. That her stuff looked like store bought.Maybe someone would know of a company that would donate one for her to use or borrow for a extended period of time.Thank you everyone that has tried to help.
What Kind of clay should I use? Okay so I just recently purchased a pottery wheel at a garage sale. It did not come with clay. How can I make clay at home to use with the wheel? Thanks a ton!!

How do you make a pottery kiln? clay kilns are so expensive! i was wondering about how to make them yourself...i also don't want to catch my field on fire so how can i do it safely? it would be cool if the kiln could "cook" the clay evenly...does anyone know how to do this or if it's even possible?
What makes pottery aquarium safe? How do I know if two different types of clays can be blended together? I am in the process of starting up a small business. I make aquarium ornaments and other decorative pieces out of earthenware. I want to add some color to my work without glaze. I'm considering using two or more types of clay in a single piece. How do i know if two clays can be blended into a single piece? I know it has something to do with the shrinkage rates and grog %. But where do I get this information and exactly how close do two types of clay have to be to be workable together. Also how do I know if a particular clay is aquarium safe. The supplier came right out and told me the first type of clay I used was safe but they aren't being nearly as helpful now for some reason. How do I know if the clay will hold up in water? How do I know if it will affect water chemistry? I do not have a kiln. I currently drive 2 freakin hours round trip to get my work fired. This makes glazing pieces extremely costly because of gas and additional kiln costs. But this is not the real reason I don't glaze. I like the look unglazed pieces take on once they mature. geocities.com/landonwebb there are a few mature pieces on my website. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. I want to blend clays so that i can maintain that effect. Glaze would add color but it would be so smooth that the algae would not colonize the piece nearly as well and it would not look as attractive.
How do I make a dragon and gargoyle from clay? I have a pottery wheel of my own and the clay. A friend of mine has requested a dragon and a gargoyle for me to make. I'm not too sure how to go about this? Do I make it hollow by throwing some of the peices on the wheel? Or solid? Any tips and ideas?

in pottery, how do you center your clay on a pottery wheel? i'm taking sculpture for freshmen year, and i had mr. lannon center the clay for me and i was able to make pots pretty easily, but i can't center it myself, it's the only problem and the biggest problem i'm having. how exactly do you center them while the wheel is turning?
Linear programming problem.? Mary Smith makes pottery by hand in her basement. She has 20 hours available each week to make bowls and vases. A bowl requires 3 hours of labor, and a vase requires 2 hours of labor. It requires 2 pounds of special clay to make a bowl and 5 pounds to produce a vase; she is able to acquire 35 pounds of clay per week. Mary sells her bowls for $50 each and her vases for $40 each. She wants to know how many of each item to make each week to maximize her revenue. Please show all work:)
handmade ceramics, clay, pottery, sculpture using no kiln, oven bake or no bake supplies? I have a project with clay/ ceramics/ sculpture I want to get underway. I am planning on making a set of "functional items": plates, bowls, cups etc. I would really like to use a kiln, (you know, the whole glazing and firing deal) but I don't have the resources where I live. 1) Is there any sort of non bake or low bake clays that will allow me to make these projects at home? 2) I also want to paint them, and hopefully glaze them. By doing this, will I also be able to use them "functionally"? And what is the best glaze for this? 3) Can I heat them and wash them without ruining the pottery or without causing safety hazards? 4) How is the comparison in quality as opposed to finishing them with a kiln? Thanks in advance! Best Wishes!
How can I make "slip" quickly (like in 24 hours) with wet (not dry) clay? I'm doing a pottery lesson with my class, and up until now we've been using vinegar instead of slip for the "slip and score" part just because I didn't have any slip made and I was in a hurry to get started. If I just leave some wet clay in a bit of water in a closed container, will 24 hours be enough to disolve it to a sticky paste like consistency?
How Do You Make A Cup With Clay At Home? Shape It, Fire It, Paint It, All That Good Stuff? Hi, I was wanting to learn how to do a little pottery, mostly cups and plates, and I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about it. I would love if for someone who has some experience and a little knowledge about the products available to respond. I figure I can find out how to shape them as I go along but what type of a clay or material would I use for the cup itself and then to paint it. Can you cook them in a kitchen oven or does that not get hot enough? I would like them to last a good while, I could hand wash them if I had to but it would be even better if I could put them in a dishwasher. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!!!

Pottery and Clay Modelling? I am looking at fulfilling a lifetime ambition of making quirky one off pots, plates, ornaments, jugs vases, ashtrays and all sorts of weird and wonderful nik naks - all in clay. I don't have much money to throw at this as it will start as a hobby, and hopefully if it gains enough momentum I can sell things locally or on ebay and maybe have enough money for a kiln. My question is therefore how can I get started and what''s the best type of clay to use and without a kiln but using an oven or outside gas barbecue barbecue (which can heat up to 800degrees - not sure if this is celcius or farenheit)?
I am pottery makeing at 4pm today, and I have tones of questions? (1)what should I wear? (2)should I bring anything, like cell phone, glasses, ect? (3)How long does it take? How should I theme my pinch bowl in pottery? I'm making a pinch bowl in pottery and its average size, about 4 inches in diameter. We are given a little ball of clay and have to make it into something to add to our pinch bowl. We have to give it a "theme", but not to a huge extent. My teacher gave us some examples such as putting a small diving board on the edge of the bowl, making the bowl into a "pool". We are given a little ball of clay and have to make it into something to add to our pinch bowl. I was thinking about making a surf board, but I don't know how I would incorporate that into/on to the bowl. Also, I was thinking about adding little triangular pieces around the edge, making it a sun. I live in FL and love the beach, surfing, fishing and anything outdoors in the sun. Very tropical/hippie-ish... I only get a little ball of clay, so I can only make so much...
Pottery pinch bowl theme...? I'm making a pinch bowl in pottery and its average size, not to big. We have to give it a "theme", but not to a huge extent. My teacher gave us some examples such as putting a small diving board on the edge of the bowl, making the bowl into a "pool". So basically, we get this little ball of clay and have to make it into something to add to our pinch bowl. I was thinking about making a surf board, but I don't know how I would incorporate that into/on to the bowl. I'm live in FL, so everything is very tropical and beach related. Although I don't mind any ideas. Does anyone have any ideas? I only get a little ball of clay, so I can only make so much...

What is this Poetry talking about? My grandmothers were strong. They followed plows and bent to toil. They moved through fields sowing seed. They touched earth and grain grew. They were full of sturdiness and singing. My grandmothers were strong. My grandmothers are full of memories Smelling of soap and onions and wet clay With veins rolling roughly over quick hands They have many clean words to say. My grandmothers were strong. Why am I not as they? All i got was that, she is talking about her female ancestors. And how strong they were, they didnt need a man to work the fields to grow the food, and yet did everything a woman had to do, like cleaning , cooking, and even making pottery. And she is not strong as they are, because she is a modern woman who doesnt have to do all that. What can you say more about it? and whats it about?
Questions about pottery.? Two weeks ago our art teacher gave us each a medium sized block of red clay and told us to make two bowls, one to keep and one to donate.Basically, we made the bowls out of the red clay, painted glaze on them and then he collected them and put them in a oven.I want to do this again but at home since I enjoyed it alot.so how do i do it? what clay do i buy? where can i purchase glaze? do i just stick it in my oven when i'm done?.I'd ask my art teacher but he got laid off a couple days after we got out pottery back.
I need some ceramics tips...? A few weeks ago I got a potters wheel as an early birthday present. I took ceramics for two years in high school, but after several years I feel like I forgot everything. Everything I throw ends up with several bubbles in it, no matter how much I wedge it. If it doesn't end up with bubbles in it, then it gets twisted, and then eventually collapses. I have several DVDs and books but they only make me even more discouraged because they make it seem so easy. They explain many different techniques but they don't explain how to prevent bubbles, twisting or "lopsidedness." I even have trouble centering the clay which makes me feel hopeless. Part of me wants to take a class again but I'm really embarrassed because when I try several times and fail I get really upset and usually start crying. I have no patience, and I guess that's most of the problem. I don't know whether to take a pottery class or an anger management class.
how to paint pottery? I haven't made or painted pottery since I was a child. But figured I would play around with it again. I am going to purchase some moist clay. But how and what do I use to paint it. I know after being painted it needs to go in the kiln. I am going to try to google on how to make my own temporary kiln at home. If you have any tips or anwers for me I would be ever so grateful.

Few question about clay...? Hello! I've been interested in art for a while now, however I've never really been interested in pottery until just recently. I would love to get started. Here are a few questions: What is the best kind of clay to get? If I wanted to make little things, how would I fire them? Is there an inexpensive kiln for at home use? (Nothing crazy, just a small reasonable one) What tools are best to start with? What paints should I buy, and what paints work best? Lastly, are there any wonderful sites I should know about to help me get started? :) If there are any additional details/facts I should know, please feel free to add them in. Sorry if this sounds absurd;you can tell I'm new. lol Thank you very much. Your help is really appreciated. :D
What do you make of this geological well-known fact when it's combined with an Australian discovery this week? In Mesopotamia, a deep bed of clay was dug up with pottery beneath it. Above the clay belt was pottery of a new settlement, evidencing a great flood between the two civilisations. Now, this week news was broadcast of a cave discovered in Australia, full of remains of animals said to be XXX millions of years old (pick a figure and treble it), and astonishment was expressed at how surprisingly similar those animals were to modern day kangaroos and marsupials. I see a connection between the two discoveries, but does anyone else? The Mesopotamian clay belt is way over, above and beyond a mere river flood. I heard about the ancient animal remains on a radio news programme this week, but I'm numerically dyslexic and dare not risk stating the millions of years given for the remains. It was a huge figure. Not just one or two million! I'm sure it was in three figures, hence my XXX. I was hoping someone else had heard about it and could give more details, then I would venture an opinion.
Creationists, how can something come from nothing? How can God make everything out of nothing? He had no tools or materials since he was the only thing that existed... If you sit down at the pottery wheel to make bowls...How many bowls can you make out of no amount of clay? yuhh, no, you are not correct. 4evahis, please provide me your definition of evolution. I think you are severely misguided.
Please help...Questions about The Art Institutes(If you been to one please answer)...? I'm 16, currently a junior living in San Diego. And I'm not sure what I want to do (as a career), but I'm good at art I enjoy doing it, and I'm thinking maybe getting into advertisement maybe making movie posters or like perfume or make up ads, or maybe getting into fashion design. idk. But I was wondering what it's like to go to the art institute. Is it like high school where you have certain classes you have to take and you can have an election class(choose a class you want). I just want to know how a regular day there is like. And these are the art things I enjoy doing. So if you have time will you please tell me some careers you think would be good for me. Thank you. =] Art things I enjoy doing: -Traditional sketching and drawing -Pottery (working with clay) and a little jewelry making -Photography -Digital art: working with photoshop and Coral Painter X, although I don't have much experience in that -Fashion, I enjoy making a few fashion sketches every now and then but that's as far as I go with that. My Plan: And after high school I plan on going to Mira costa collage, than the peace corps because I'd like to get involved in helping ect. and I think it'll give me time to think of what I really want to do, and then afterwords I plan on going to the Art Institute. Do you think that's a good plan? And I do really want to join the peace corps so no comment on that please. And I just want to figure this all out because at my school we're going to do this thing called a Juniorexhibitionn and that'sbasicallyy finding a career you're interested in doing and you have to do a ton of research and other stuff for it Thank you very much for your help! =]
To all Christians on the Globe; do you have an answer!? God is so Holy and so Good, and He is immensely and endlessly Just, and by no means can God oppress or deal unfairly with mankind. We Christian are saved not because of the good work we are doing and hence God is pleased of our work and thus accepts us and brings us to Him. We know that we are saved not because of the work we did, but because the work that God did for us. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. So God did every thing possible to redeem mankind and restore him to life to be with Him and enjoy His company for we also know that God has prepared what no eyes have ever seen or ears hear or minds perceive the wonder that God has for those who love him and those who accepted his work on the cross and His salvation. But we Christian also know that those who are saved are few and much less than those who are perished. Christ revealed to us that the saved ones enter from the narrow gate and those who enter therein are very few. But those who are perished go through the wide and spacious gate and who enter therein are many and greatly more than those who are saved. In Jeremiah 13:17 the scripture reveals the sorrow of God because of human disobedience to Him. It is written: If you won't listen, then I will weep secretly over your pride. My Eyes will cry bitterly and flow with tears because the Lords flock will be taken away captives. It seems that most of humanity is going to hell. In Roman 9:14-23 we read, "14What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."16It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy. 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."18Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. 19One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?" 20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' "21Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? 22What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? 23What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory. How do you explain?
Isn't it funny how well god fits the definition of megalomaniac? "...to denote an obsession with, either in the form of irrational perceived need for, or preoccupation with one's own estimation of having and/or obtaining, grandiosity and extravagance (especially in the form of great fame and popularity, material wealth, social influence or political power, or more than one or even all of the aforesaid) and accompanying complete desirous and bombastic abandon; a common symptom if not the key diagnostic feature of megalomania..." Romans 9:18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. 19 One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?" 20 But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?'" 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? 22 What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction? 23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory 24 even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? God seems to be more concerned with having his glory known then the safety and well being of his subjects. The last line, "and accompanying complete desirous and bombastic abandon" comes to mind...
Will God send children or people who have never heard of him to hell? This has been on my mind lately, and I went through some of the questions people have posted here and I`m still not sure. I watched Bridge to Terabithia last week and have just finished the book and the thought has been haunting me for a while now. Suppose a child dies and never believed in God, will he go to hell? What if he had decided and had his heart set on never believing in Him even though he has heard about Him? Same goes for the people around the world who have never heard about Jesus or the Bible? There are many, many people out there who have never heard the Word. Will God still judge them? It says in John 3:18 `Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already becaue he has not believed in the name of God`s one and only Son.` I went to bible study with my friend and we discussed about this topic too. He led me to this passage which I found to be very meaningful. Romans 9:14 'What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! For he says to Moses, 'I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.' It does not, therefore, depend on man`s desire or effort, but on God's mercy.' And in verse 18 'Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. One of you will say to me: 'Then why does God still blame us? For who resists His will? But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? 'Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?'' Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?' Those verses, in my opinion tells us not to question God's judgement. But personally I feel it to be extremely depressing if people, never hearing the Word, would be sent to hell. Same goes for children. How about people who do good their whole lives and never sinned but never accepted Jesus? Some people on Yahoo Answers have talked about age of maturity or something. Does the Bible explicitly discuss this or is it something conjectured to explain this? Thanks for your feedback. First of all I would like to thank everyone for their answers. I found them insightful, but at the same time people seem to have mixed opinions. Now I am pretty sure that God would not send babies and children to hell, because He is Love and babies and children are innocent (not ignorant, which is a different matter). But when do people stop being "children"? When they can think rationally? For me that was around the age of 5 when i started to understand the world around me. To David, what if they genuinely never heard of Him in their lives? Wouldn't that be unfair? To Wyn who said he wouldn't judge them, it says in the bible in John 14:6 "Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Personally I think when given the choice, and we accept it, it is meaningful to Him because we CHOSE to love and believe in Him. It wouldn't mean much if we were all robots and went to heaven. In the book i guess Leslie is going to hell?
Ancient Greek Artifacts? I have a project that I'm working on for school. (: And I need some ideas for Greek artifacts. It has to relate to ancient Greek art and/or literature. Right now, I have pottery and frescoes. How-to's are appreciated as well. By the way, does anyone what kind of paint you use to paint air-dry modeling clay? I need to make it a terracotta color, and then use black paint some designs. Thanks.
how do i connect wires in a 4 d cell arrangement to a motor? I have a hobby type pottery clay wheel powered by 4 'd' cell batteries. After disassembly, i found corrosion-of course-everywhere, and the connecting wires askew. After cleaning and neutralizing battery box and all connections, i need to re-solder all wiring to make it run. How do i do that? It has a on-off switch, as well. I have solder gun, rosin core solder, and wire. The wire that was on it was stranded, and i have solid wire. The wire size looks the same, but i wonder if solid core will be more resistive? Thanks for any help that may come my way. Larry I am unsure how to wire the switch to the batteries in the correct polarity. Thank you very much, 'sowehavecometothis' for your feedback!
Alternative materals for sand block sculpting? I'm looking for an alternative ingredient to solidify a sand mixture for producing sand blocks. These blocks would be used in subtractive sculpting / carving. The stabilizing ingredient I am familiar with is a two part resin that hardens to solidify the sand mixture. This mixture uses only 2 ingredients, sand and the resin. You may have seen this mixture used to make sand molds for casting metals in industrial applications as well as fine art applications. I like to use these sand blocks (2ft. cubes and smaller) for carving as they are easy to produce and shape. I'm looking to find an environmentally friendly ingredient to replace the resin in the mix. Possibly something that could be rehydrated after use and formed back into another block, ie: how pottery clay(not fired) can be recycled by rehydrating it. I'd like to achieve large blocks (2x2x2 ft.) without fracturing in the curing process. I only need to carve the blocks, not use them for casting metal. Thanks for any advice
How-To... Greek Sculpture? I'm trying to make Greek columns out of air-dry modeling clay. And Greek painted pottery. Any how-to's on the making of those?
Ramadan : HAVE YOU HEARD THE TEA CUP STORY ? THE TEA CUP: There was a couple who used to go to England to shop in the beautiful stores. They both liked antiques and pottery and especially teacups. This was their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. One day in this beautiful shop they saw a beautiful teacup. They said, "May we see that? We've never seen one quite so beautiful." As the lady handed it to them, suddenly the teacup spoke"You don't understand," it said. "I haven't always been a teacup. There was a time when I was red and I was clay. My master took me and rolled me and patted me over and over and I yelled out, 'Let me alone', but he only smiled, 'Not yet.' "Then I was placed on a spinning wheel," the teacup said, "and suddenly I was spun around and around and around. Stop it! I'm getting dizzy! I screamed. But the master only nodded and said, 'Not yet.' Then he put me in the oven. I never felt such heat. I wondered why he wanted to burn me, and I yelled and knocked at the door. I could see him through the opening and I could read his lips as he shook his head, 'Not yet.' Finally the door opened, he put me on the shelf, and I began to cool. 'There, that's better', I said. And he brushed and painted me all over. The fumes were horrible. I thought I would gag. 'Stop it, stop it!' I cried. He only nodded, 'Not yet.' Then suddenly he put me back into the oven, not like the first one. This was twice as hot and I knew I would suffocate. I begged. I pleaded. I screamed. I cried. All the time I could see him through the opening nodding his head saying, 'Not yet.' Then I knew there wasn't any hope. I would never make it. I was ready to give up. But the door opened and he took me out and placed me on the shelf. One hour later he handed me a mirror and I couldn't believe it was me. It's beautiful. I'm beautiful.' 'I want you to remember, then,' he said, 'I know it hurts to be rolled and patted, but if I had left you alone, you would have dried up. I know it made you dizzy to spin around on the wheel, but if I had stopped, you would have crumbled. I knew it hurt and was hot and disagreeable in the oven, but if I hadn't put you there, you would have cracked. I know the fumes were bad when I brushed and painted you all over, but if I hadn't done that, you never would have hardened; you would not have had any color in your life. And if I hadn't put you back in that second oven, you wouldn't survive for very long because the hardness would not have held. Now you are a finished product. You are what I had in mind when I first began with you "Allah" knows what He's doing for all of us. He is the potter, and we are His clay. He will mold us and make us, so that we may be made into a flawless piece of work to fulfill His good, pleasing, and perfect will, which we can never escape. This is a great story that we could all benefit from. It is a simple reminder of how "Allah" is the potter of our life and we are the clay. "Allah" is the shaper of each of our lives and when struggles seem overwhelming, we need to remind ourselves that these struggles serve a purpose in making us stronger, wiser, and in the perfect image that "Allah" has for each of His creations. ignore the quotes around Allah (swt) name.
How to get a straight, even pot on a wheel? My husband is majoring in art therapy and has to take a clay class. He is having a lot of problems on the pottery wheel, and he has to make 12 pots, at least 6 inches, before Monday. His pots are ending up "waisted", essentially, big and floppy on top, small in the middle, and break off. HELP! He needs to pass this class! you are right, he's been trying for a few days now with no luck. his teacher has a huge class and there is little to no one on one attention b/c the teacher is so busy. thanks for responding.
Essay revision please.? ( I really suck at writing essays, mostly because my paragraph structures suck and im missing a conclusion.) Ceramics “It’s like Christmas every time you open the Kiln.” – Ianna Frisby It was my 6th grade class field trip to Sly Park when I first used the pottery wheel. I’ve seen it on T.V. so I was excited that I was able to have that experience. In Sly Park we used a kick wheel to make our vessels. I could not decide how I should make my vessel since we each got a small block of clay it limited my choices on what I could make. Then I tried hand building and learned that you can do so much with so little clay. After that field trip I really wanted to take a ceramics class. When I started to attend college I noticed that Sierra College had a ceramics class, so I decided to take it. I was a little nervous at first because I was not familiar with art classes at college and I was not sure what I would benefit from it. At first it started out kind of slow and easy because we were just going over the basics and learning hand building techniques. The next week we were being introduced to the wheel. I thought I knew how to make a vase since I’ve done it once before but as it turns out, I didn’t even know that basics. It was hard to make a simple vessel or vase. I could not “center” the clay and when I finally did I could not keep it centered. There was a 4 point body technique that you are supposed to do on the wheel so that you can center your clay. And when I tried to raise the walls the entire thing would collapse and I had to start all over. I decided to stick to hand building since I was more successful at it. There are so many different techniques and tools you could use. One of my favorite tools was the slab roller, you just put your chunk of clay and on the table, turn the handle, and you have a nice flat evened out slab. My second favorite was probably the drape molds. You just take your slab of clay and drape it over the mold and design it however you want in less time. After the clay is how I want it, I start building. Then I start designing it. I use press molds, carving tools, and different utensils that I find laying around. When it came to glazing, that’s what really got my attention. It was almost like magic, you never know what you’re gonna get. You take your bisque ware and dip it into a large bucket of red glaze, and after the firing process, your red glaze turned blue-green, purple, or just red. Sometimes the Ingredients in the glaze are wrong and it messes up your work. But sometimes a disaster turns into art.
How do I list itemized deductions for casualty and theft losses when I file my taxes? This past year I experienced a rather large apartment fire that destroyed not only all my personal property but the entire building as well. I have been trying to make a list of itemized deductions to send in with my taxes, however, I've become stumped at how to list the value for certain items and whether or not I can even claim them. See, I am an artist and craftswoman and some of the things I've lost were handmade items that weren't themselves purchased in a store, but the materials the items were made from were. For instance, my pottery, which cost me the raw clay bodies, glazes, and kiln firings (not inexpensive things) or afghans which I've made from yarn that cost me quite a bit of money upon purchase. Should I forgo listing these items, as their value is difficult to prove, or is there someway I can claim their losses?
Hand crafting an amazing art set and a present? I wanted to do something that involves time for my girlfriends birthday. The plan was for it to be something creative, special, and something she can use and take with her as we both leave for college soon. She is going to college for Interior design and loves her arts as well. My plan was to create a wooden case (hand crafted, fine wood as well) and place art brushes, different paints, and other art like items into it. I'm unsure of what art items to give an interior designer or just someone who is really into art. She likes to do clay models and is really good with pottery, but I don't have one of the spinning tables for her.. haha. (Terrible with technological term on art). Anyways, can anyone suggest maybe how I can go about building this case and what to place in it? I am thinking bamboo small and fine pointed brushes that I will order, and then make the rest of the case by hand. So all in all: What / where should I find brushes? How should the case be designed? What tools and fun things should I place in the case and design the case for? If anyone can help me possibly add links or pictures of similar things that would be AMAZING. Thank you all, Ace
what is her deal is she still interested? went on a double date with my friend and his girlfriend, the girl was my friends girlfriends friend. anyways the date seemed to be ok... the only thing i noticed is that it was a really long date... we took a walk went out to eat and got ice-cream about 3 hours or so... this was the first time i really met her and i felt towards the end of the date it was hard to think of more questions and it was harder to keep a conversation going... after, we hugged i got her number and she said we should do it again sometime.. the next night, i sent her a text telling her i had a great time and told her we should do it again sometime.. she responded... Yeah it was good! we should all do it again sometime. the thing is it took her over a hour and a half to text that to me.. Since it took her so long to reply i just never responded.. A couple days past and I ran into her friend and she asked me why I never sent becca a text back. She sounded kind of irritated. I just said I was not sure if she wanted to talk at the time.. Anyways I sent her a text later that day and it took forever to respond again, so I started mimicking what she was doing. I took forever to respond as well. After a bit she started to text fast and we had a decent conversation but I told her I had to go because I was in a pottery class messing with clay which was true haha. The next nightI sent her some more text, this time she responded fast and seemed somewhat interested, I chatted with her for a bit and finally asked her if she wanted to grab a bite to eat Sunday night. “Sunday night because I am out of town Friday and Saturday” she responded sorry I cant I have some sorority stuff on Sunday nights.. I did not really know what to say, I just said oh no worries let me know when you’re free. She never replied back to that. Maybe some revenge for me not replying? Haha… Please be honest here do you think she is still interested and just making me chase her a little? Because it seems that if she really wanted to go out Sunday night she could have made time but IDK. Do you think I should wait for her to text me now? Or when should I text her again if she does not text me back? Should I just not text her is does not text me back or how long should I wait? I do not want to seem too desperate.. Should I call her? And if I do text her in a few days I do not want to go right into it and ask her If she wants to go out again… how many days should I text her until I ask her out again. Or should I even try to ask her out again?
Where in Massachusetts can I buy pottery clay? I am looking for a place close to home which sells a decent clay for pottery throwing. I am especially interested in Raku clays if you know of any local companies which carry this product. I have tried craft stores in the area, but they supply mostly modeling clay. (Which can also be used for throwing, but does not work as well.) The nearest location that I could find that carries the type of clay I am looking for is located over an hour away. I was hoping there was something closer.

Can I use adobe clay for pottery? I am living in the country side of Costa Rica. There is a lot of clay here under the topsoil: deep red, orange and yellow. I can tell that it's good for making bricks or adobe, but is there a way to condition it, or maybe just age it, so it becomes more plastic and I can use it for pottery?
