Why is my newly glazed pottery making noises? I am new to wheel-thrown pottery. I have 2 beautiful bowls that came out of the kiln several days ago. The odd thing is ... every 15 mins to an hour they make a high-pitched 'ping' type of noise. I don't see any cracks or chips in the glaze. Is this normal? Why is it happening? When will it stop?
Whre can I find pottery making classes? Its really hard to find classes. I live in Blackpool, Lancashire, and I have looked on yellow pages and on google, but can only seem to find shops that sell things to make it, not the classes itself. Id love to learn it on those wheels! But if I cant find a class, I cant ever learn it!

Pottery making and baking question? Once I have made items does it matter if they dry out much before kilning them? I had the idea that I would make loads of things and then talke them, all to be kilned, however the process could stretch over weeks rather than days. Is this a problem, will they crack? Should they be kept wet or damp or cool?
Pottery-making class in Chennai? I would like to know about the places where pottery-making is taught in Chennai. I just need to learn it for fun. The place should be apt for that. ThanQ.
What makes pottery aquarium safe? How do I know if two different types of clays can be blended together? I am in the process of starting up a small business. I make aquarium ornaments and other decorative pieces out of earthenware. I want to add some color to my work without glaze. I'm considering using two or more types of clay in a single piece. How do i know if two clays can be blended into a single piece? I know it has something to do with the shrinkage rates and grog %. But where do I get this information and exactly how close do two types of clay have to be to be workable together. Also how do I know if a particular clay is aquarium safe. The supplier came right out and told me the first type of clay I used was safe but they aren't being nearly as helpful now for some reason. How do I know if the clay will hold up in water? How do I know if it will affect water chemistry? I do not have a kiln. I currently drive 2 freakin hours round trip to get my work fired. This makes glazing pieces extremely costly because of gas and additional kiln costs. But this is not the real reason I don't glaze. I like the look unglazed pieces take on once they mature. geocities.com/landonwebb there are a few mature pieces on my website. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. I want to blend clays so that i can maintain that effect. Glaze would add color but it would be so smooth that the algae would not colonize the piece nearly as well and it would not look as attractive.

Where can I go in Ms. to do wet clay pottery? Like in the movie "Ghost" where Demi Moore was making clay pottery on a wheel, where can I find something like that to do here in Mississippi? You spin the wheel and wet the clay to mold into whatever. Anyone have any ideas?
What is the best pottery wheel? I want a pottery wheel that works really well! I want a cheap one though. The one I had before was the 15 dollar plastic wheel. The battery died out every 5 min. The foot pedal wasn't that great either. My little brother could use the pottery wheel also. I make great pottery, I am not a pro though. Is there any adult wheels that are around $50? If not then what is the best child wheel there is out there that is only $50. But it really needs to have 4/5 stars, I prefer 5 stars! The speed needs to be decent!
How do you make a pottery kiln? clay kilns are so expensive! i was wondering about how to make them yourself...i also don't want to catch my field on fire so how can i do it safely? it would be cool if the kiln could "cook" the clay evenly...does anyone know how to do this or if it's even possible?
Can someone tell me the proper drill-bit type to make a hole in pottery? Ive been using larger masonry bits to make drainage holes in heavy ceramic pottery (which has no holes in it); sometimes I'm sitting on the drill for 5 minutes before it even makes the smallest hole. I can swear I did this a few years with much better ease - but, I have no idea what type of drill bit I used. Not trying to drill thru terra-cotta or anything like that - but, like heavy ceramic - such as what a heavy coffee mug or hefty soup bowl would be like. Thats what Im trying to plant some funky bulb plants into and I must have good drainage? Any ideas???
