Need help on identifying face art pottery, possibly Irish/Gaelic? I have 2 pieces of lovely but unusual face art pottery with both marks and artist signatures. The signature is perfectly clear, written into the clay on bottom, but I cannot decipher it. Can only make out the first 7 letters which are..."Deichiu". The remaining letters could be "aua" but I am not sure. All to do with reading handwriting. When I googled the first 7 letters you see above, I got sites that were irish or gaelic, some spoke about the respective languages. Hopefully I am at least on track. The logo, well same thing. I interpret it a capital letter "D" and horizontally centered in it is the letter "Y". Under that is marked very clearly either "NB 44" or "N3 44". They are very heavy pottery pieces, 6.5 " long, 3.5 " wide and 3.5 " tall. The glazing on this brown pottery is a light green, I would say. If anyone with experience in collecting art pottery, Irish, Gaelic or whatever can help me identify what I have, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks,
How do I find a community pottery/ceramics art center? Ive been wanting to get back into some pottery again for some time, but if you know anything about the tools necessary for pottery you ll know that stuff isn't cheap; pottery wheels, kilns, etc. So i thought maybe there might be some kind of community art center around here in Vancouver, WA where i could do some pottery, but i do not know how to go about finding where a place like that might be. any suggestions?
How do you open a shop for pottery and other art in a small town. And to have it give back to the community? My family has been to several places to "do your own pottery/ ceramics" and they fire them for you. (In much larger cities) Our size is maybe 12,000 pop. My goal is to open something similar to this yet allow different classes to be taught also. Ex: painting, scrapbooking, batiking, sewing, sculpture, stainglass...any mediums people (children and teenagers also) would be intrested in. A place for all ages (allow kids to have b-day parties!) Also giving teens a place to hang & show their talents. Of course the art mind has no sense of the business mind. I clearly need advice on how this could be started and where to look for financing . It would be a great opportunity for this small town in TX w/nada. Allowing families and kids to do something unique. I have many ideas and themes found by talking to others. I feel that placing some of the profits with local and international charities would be a good way to give back. (Hab 4 Hum, YoungLife, Compassion I.) Just need a place to start.

A new Midwest Art Fair in western Indiana, what is your interest level? Arts & Crafts, pottery, glass, etc.? A brand new Art Fair is being proposed in a small western Indiana town for the purposes of developing an Art community by providing the land and opportunity to present local and National Artists across the US. Open to suggestions, artists that are interested are encouraged to respond. The location has yet to be finalized, but would start at 3 acres and could expand to as much as 10+ over time. Competitive rental and relaxed atmosphere in a country setting. Also interested in developing a Rennaissance Faire in this region.

ART HISTORY:: Greek pottery. Help....? I've read everything I can in this section but it doesn't say anything that would help. The question is: Which of the following is true about Greek pottery? A. It gives us a clue about the Greek way of life. B. We can establish a chronology based on the styles and modes. C. It provides evidence for the distribution of trade around the Mediterranean. D. All of the above I'm leaning more towards D but I can't be sure...
I wanna become a high school art teacher, but I suck at using the pottery wheel. Help!? I don't think I can be a art teacher now. I loooove ceramics. I love making masks and pigs and cows and everything else. My favorite part is painting everything so detailed. But I suck at the pottery wheel. I can't make a freakin bowl for my life. I need to make 2 bowls by the end of this semester to pass the class and I can't do it. I'm so discouraged right now. I use to love ceramics and clay but the pottery wheel is ruining my life. What are some good tips? And I HATE glaze!!!! It makes the pieces so boring because you can't even mix the colors or anything without the piece looking like poop!!!!! I sooooo prefer painting ceramic stuff with acrylic paint.
The art of Crock pottery? :) I need recipes? Im looking for really good and delicious crock pot recipes. I love slow-cooking but I don't always like feeling as if I am eating a big mumbo-jumbo whose flavors are all mixed together. Do you know what I mean? So I like recipes that are simple (like cooking the chicken breasts with apple slices and potatos and then having a side dish of veggies or something else later on). But I want the slow cooker to do most of the work and I just want clean fresh, decently healthy recipes. Oh and especially seafood recipes if you have any...i dunno if seafood is too strong a flavor to use in crock pots. Thanks for your help if you can!

Applying to job in an art supply store? I want to apply for a job an an art supply store, and am wondering what are the most important things I'll need to know in order to be helpful as a sales person. I'm an art major in college currently, and have some experience with oil and acrylic paints and pottery, but I don't really know any technical details about paints, etc, just have some practical experience. What would you recommend learning before the interview?? Thanks!
What to charge for fine art pieces at a craft fair? I'm thinking of getting a booth at an Arts and Crafts Fair in my local town. I will have paintings, drawings and possibly some other pieces (pottery, clay works), perhaps some graphic design works. Considering sizes, detail, etc, what would be some fair prices for paintings, drawings etc? Also, I plan on just framing them with foamboard or regular matboard, this way the customer has the choice of an actual frame (metal, wood or whatever), to go with their home decor. Would that work well? Any other tips would be really helpful, as this would be my first time doing this, other than face painting at another fair! lol Thanks for all your thoughts everyone :)
What is a possible theme i can use for an art project? I need to create a series of 6 projects weaving a common theme through each. Any ideas? Its for a ceramics class and I have to find a way to use the theme in my pottery later on. But for now I just need some ideas. I need to create a series of 6 projects weaving a common theme through each. Any ideas? Its for a ceramics class and I have to find a way to use the theme in my pottery later on. But for now I just need some ideas. They have to be collages/examples of my own work (photography, painting, drawings, etc) and whatever theme i express in those will later be translated somehow into my pottery. Confusing I know haha
I like several different types of styles for home decor, should I combine all or choose one? These are the styles of decor I like - Southwest inspired such as Native American art, pottery, drums, cactus, zig zag lines, bold earthy colors etc; Canadian/Alaskan wildlife like moose, wolves, evergreen trees, pinecones, etc; and Asian inspired decor like bamboo plants, water fountains, windchimes, teapots, feng-shui, etc. In my new home, should I try to incorporate parts from each or stick with one type the whole way through? I don't know how I could pick only one style and if I did, I would miss the others. What are your thoughts on this?
Radio ad for fatherhood saying bad things about a pottery career? Hi: I wasn't listening closely, but I barely heard a radio ad with what sounded like Tom Selleck as the narrator, and a father and son dialog and the son mentioned he was interested in pursuing a career as a potter, and the father slammed him for a bad career. Anyone else hear that? I think that is a really bad ad, that slams art as a career in general. That really makes me mad, because that seems to put artistic endeavors in a bad light. I would like to know the actual place that has that ad so I can write them, and I would highly encourage any other artist to do the same. Any helpful information is appreciated. AM - artists are not what you said. Your answer is not appreciated at all, and you seem like a hater.

Trying to expand the art scene here in Las Vegas. What appeals to you? The art culture is growing here. I've been trying to find ways to make extra money and expand my artistic skills. I'm young and enjoy the urban scene: music, fashion, movies, etc. I love unique and creative styles of art. I would like to portray city life, fashion and music into my art but i dont know how many people would buy into it. I want to identify with the youth and young adults. I dont think it's ever too early for them to love art. I was also considering producing one of a kind/limited edition artwork specifically for tourists. Mostly photos and digital work. Most of them come from Europe and Asia and they buy alot of cheap, mass made art. So why not make something better thats limited? What kind of things would you like to see in photography, digital work, paintings, oil pastels, sculptures, pottery, blown glass, etc? And for those of you that are young (14-25 yrs) what is the chances of you buying artwork? Especially if it isnt expensive and appeals to your lifest I love graffiti, but was never able to get far with it. i'm doing pretty well in photography and wanted to take really creative photos of the strip and various areas of the valley. Tourists done really care about anything else other than the strip. i know alot of tourists like artwork of the strip. Most of it isnt that great so I wanted to capture things they would overlook and would not really beable to see like great sunrises and sunsets.
