Where can I find a place to take pottery classes?
I live in Virginia beach, VA and I am interested in learning how to make pottery pieces, but I have not been able to find any classes. I am not interested in painting other people's pottery, I want to start from scratch.

- I did some internet searching and found a possibility http://www.cdava.com/workshops.html It is a pottery club that has seminars This sounds like a group I am a member of in Toledo, OH One of the group will have classes http://www.easawyer.net/ Look under upcoming events Contemporary Art Center of Virginia 2200 Parks Ave Virginia Beach, VA 757.425.0000 http://cacv.org/studio/adult.asp Beginner and intermediate students learn fundamental hand-building, wheel-throwing, decorating and glazing techniques. Intermediate students further develop their pottery skills by focusing on personal interests and looking at contemporary ceramicists for inspiration. I hope somebody else can tell you some other possibilities
- I don't know about Virginia, but in my locale one can take ceramics or pottery and have your work fired in a 10 cone kiln at our local jr college. Residents can take the classes for a minimal charge. Well worth it. My daughter took the class, and had a blast, and I got to make some items by hand and have them fired under her name. It was great! I recommend you check with your local colleges...
