What are the best types of clay used for pottery?

1. There is no really best type of clay. What matters is how the pottery is intended to be used. What facilities the artist has to fire the pottery. The types of clay are earthenware, stoneware, porcelain (Some might call terracotta a type of earthenware.) When buying, choose somebody local. I have bought from a distributor of Laguna Clay. http://www.lagunaclay.com/ He combines order until he has enough for a truck load. Saves a lot on shipping. A couple people needed a special clay for a seminar, so had the clay shipped UPS -- they payed more for the shipping than the clay
2. sometimes there are a really good kind of clay. but if you are looking for a color usually grey is the best. then you can paint it if you perfer. but ususually i use chicden pottery shop for all my clay. (its also an online store)
