  1. A great website for that is GARE.com tehy have an option to look at RECIPES which how step by step how to make certain things on their site. I make pottery items every year for my friends and family as I've managed and taught at a pottery studio for almost 3 years. This year I'm painting jars and making fudge which will go in the jars. ou can turn dinner plates into clocks. Have the people at the studio drill a hole in the Center BEFORE you paint it just in case it makes it crack. Putting cork on the bottoms of tiles make wonderful trivets. You can also glue ribbon around the edges of the til for hanging on the wall or have them drill two small holes to hang the ribbon. Hand painted Christmas ornaments are wonderful because people keep them forever and are always treasured. Let me know if you want any tips on fun and funky new techniques as I've got the motherload.....some pottery studios are stingy though and won't let you use more than 4 colors or more than an ounce of each color. Make sure you find a place that lets you create whatever you want and doesn't hold you back.
  2. I made myself a personalized humorous drink mug & accompanying saucer plate. At the place I go to, they have so much to choose from it's hard to decide on what to paint. I've made piggy, well actually technically doggy & hippo banks, for my niece & nephew with their names painted on it. Anyways, I think anything you paint that's practical for the most part, jewelry boxes, serving plates, photo frames, etc. would be nice if they were personalized with their name or something painted that reminds you of the gift reciever is a good way to go. Good luck, should be fun =D
