Amazing Pottery

ART HISTORY:: Greek pottery. Help....?

I've read everything I can in this section but it doesn't say anything that would help. The question is: Which of the following is true about Greek pottery? A. It gives us a clue about the Greek way of life. B. We can establish a chronology based on the styles and modes. C. It provides evidence for the distribution of trade around the Mediterranean. D. All of the above I'm leaning more towards D but I can't be sure...

Public Comments

  1. I would say D as well.
  2. Absolutely D.
  3. D without hesitation. Look at some potteries though, and see that some are red on black, some are black on red according to the periods they were made. See that it shows different peoples from the Mediterranean sea, and that we see Greek people in their everyday life.
  4. Yes D. There are ceramic artifacts depicting historical and mythological scenes The various ceramic art work and shape also depicts the fashion of the time, from utilitarian to decorative. The Ancient Greeks stretched around the Aegean coastline from Cyprus and Sicily, Italy and what is now Turkey even toward India and Egypt. etc.
  5. As D encompasses the rest, the questions seem put in a strange way to differentiate, but D would make sense. What surprised most most about Greek pottery is that it appears to have been made by slaves, as we would consider much to be impressive art. But, until recently artists, musicians and actors have been paid very little and regarded as disreputable members of society, while slaves were considered necessary until machines began to take over. Yet these were those who created Much of what is left behind and whom we would regard as great artists now!
