Amazing Pottery

What supplies do I need to start making my own pottery?

  1. I would suggest finding a local pottery class around your town. Otherwise, it would be extremely expensive seeing as how you need a kiln! My aunt takes a weekly pottery class. They have a monthly charge - she keeps getting better and better. The pieces she makes now are beautiful!
  2. A kiln would be the main thing, sometimes you can find local studios or shops that will fire things for a price. You will need clay that you can either order from a distributor in your area, usually people that own shops, or order on-line from a supplier. If you want to throw pottery you will need a wheel, if your hand building, or slab building you might want a slab roller. Then there are tools and sponges, there would be the smallest and least of your expenses. The kiln, wheel, and slab roller are all relatively expensive, but sometimes you can make deal by looking in classifieds or bargain posts.
