Where can I find clay out in nature that is usable in sculpting and pottery?
I live in upstate New York and would like to know how I can identify clay that is in the dirt in nature. Any pictures and descriptions would be great. And also, could I use this clay for sculpting and pottery making? How would I have to prepare it? Please help, and thanks!

- If you like just copy your item to a professor at http://www.oneonta.edu/academics/earths/Geology.asp this professor teaches a field trip course so knows where the clay is EBERTJR@oneonta.edu
- There is a place in Georgia where they dig clay out of the ground to use for throwing. The clay is called Lizella and I think that's the name of the place in Georgia also.
